N-formylmorpholine (NFm) is a chemical compound with the chemical formula C5H9NO. It is a colorless to slightly yellowish liquid with a mint-like odor. It is a strong base used as a chemical intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and other chemicals. N-Formylmorpholine is also used as a corrosion inhibitor and stabilizer for polymers.

NFm is formed by the reaction of morpholine and formic acid. This reaction is usually carried out in the presence of a catalyst such as an acid or a base.

NFm is a hazardous substance which may be harmful if inhaled, ingested, or absorbed through the skin. It can irritate the eyes, nose, throat and lungs. NFm can also cause skin and eye burns. If ingested, NFm can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Inhalation of high concentrations of NFm can cause central nervous system depression leading to dizziness, headache and loss of consciousness.

NFm is a flammable liquid that can be ignited by heat, sparks or open flame. It is also a strong oxidizing agent that can react with other chemicals to form explosive mixtures.

NFm must be handled with care and should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat and sources of ignition. It should be kept in an airtight container and should not be mixed with other chemicals without consulting the Safety Data Sheet.

If you come into contact with NFm, you should immediately remove any contaminated clothing and wash your skin with soap and water. If you inhale NFm, you should remove to fresh air and seek medical attention. If you have ingested NFm, you should call a poison control center or seek medical attention immediately.
